The concept of a stationary population is an illusion based on the short sightedness of our short human lives. In the big picture, people are always moving around and intermingling.

And that is a good and beautiful thing.

War, wildfires, storms, economic stress, drought, famine, rising seas and many other catastrophic pressures are causing whole communities or even vast populations to move to new areas, sometimes even assimilating into different cultures.

And if it isn't hard enough on the displaced, the receiving communities are not prepared for the influx and can react in a variety of ways, ranging from compassion to fear to anger.

When cultures intermingle new cultural forms emerge but sudden changes in a region's population can overwhelm local infrastructure.

This is all high level discussion though, populations are composed of individuals. People who have experienced hardship and loss and are just trying to adapt and survive.

Compassion and understanding are necessary.
