Clothing and fashion are two related but distinctly different concepts.
Clothing is concerned with comfort and protection while fashion is concerned with status and style.
The companies that make and sell clothes know that they can make more money from marketing fashion and part of the fashion game is about having the newest thing.
Growing from this profit recipe is what is being called Fast Fashion - cheap clothing that looks good shipped anywhere in the world.
As a result there is a lot of waste in the clothing industry, clothes that aren't sold in season could possibly be sold in a secondary market or repurposed but just as likely will just be thrown away.
The same system that makes it easy to order products and have them shipped to our homes also makes it easy to throw away unsold products.
Products are manufactured in areas where workers rights and wages are flexible. Not to mention the reliance on synthetic materials, global shipping and other environmental threats posed.
How can businesses and supply chains be restructured to become more efficient and sustainable?
Tell a story about a revolution in fashion. Fashion that supports people's rights, healthy communities and environmental protection.
